BRIEF PROFILE OF CHRISTIAN ATSU




Christian Atsu Twasam (born 10 January 1992), commonly known simply as Christian Atsu, is currently playing for Vitesse in the Eredivisie on loan from Chelsea.

Born in Ada Foah. Atsu arrived at F.C. Porto at the age of 17, he was discovered by formal juniores trainer Patrick Greveraars, finishing his football formation with the club. On 14 May 2011, he was called by first-team manager André Villas-Boas for a top division match against C.S. Marítimo, but eventually did not leave the bench in a 2–0 away win.

As teammate Kelvin, Atsu was sent on loan to fellow league outfit Rio Ave F.C. for the 2011–12 season. He made his debut in the competition on 28 August 2011, in a 0–1 home loss against S.C. Olhanense.

On 1 September 2013 Atsu agreed to join Chelsea on a five-year contract, being immediately loaned to Dutch club Vitesse


International career

Atsu won his first senior cap for Ghana on 1 June 2012 against Lesotho, scoring in the process. He was described by the BBC as an "excellent prospect", whilst ESPN added he was "quick and technically impressive", and a potential future star for his national team. He represented Ghana at the 2013 nations cup in South Africa and scored against Niger in the final group group. He has made 21 appearances for Ghana and scored 5 times. Atsu’s favorite number is the number 10 but will be in the number 7 Jersey for Ghana at the World Cup. He will be making his debut World Cup appearance at age 22.
