ASANTE KOTOKO WIN 2013/2014 LEAGUE TITLE AFTER BEATING EDUBIASE 2-1 IN BEKWAI




Defending League Champions Kumasi Asante Kotoko confirmed their league title triumph after beating New Edubiase 2-1 at the Gyemfi Park in Bekwai on Wednesday afternoon in the match day 28 of the first capital plus premier league.

Two goals from striker Seidu Bancey and winger Prince Baffoe in the first half were enough to secure the porcupine warriors all three points away.

Seidu Bancey capitalized on a defensive blander to pounce the ball over the Edubiase goalkeeper in the 41th min before Prince Baffoe made 2-0 with a fine finish in the 45th minutes to end the first half.

Referee Joseph Lamptey however awarded the Bekwai lads a penalty in the second half but Striker Stephen Manu who is a former player of the Porcupine warriors wasted the kick by shooting wide. Edubiase however got a consolation in the dying embers of the game through midfielder Emmanuel Nti Mensah to end the game 2-1.

The result meant the Kumapem lads win their third successive league title with two matches to go in this year’s first capital plus premier league.

In other matches, Accra Hearts of Oak beat Inter Allies 1-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium. A Winful Cobbinah’s 64th minutes goal was enough to secure Mohammed Polo and his lads the three maximum points at home.

Liberty Proffessionals also managed to record a 2-0 win over Kumasi King Faisal at the Babayara Sports Stadium. Thanks to goals from Kennedy Ashia and Abdul-Samed Jafaru.
Medeama SC ended their poor run in the league after their exit from the CAF Confederation Cup when the beat Berekum Chelsea 2-0 at the Takwa T&A Park. Goals from Striker Nathaniel Asamoah and Malik Akowuah.

Razir Mohammed, Idan Conney and Prince Acquah scored one goal each for second placed Hearts of Lions who thrashed relegation threatened Amidaus Proffessionals 3-1 at the Tema Park. Isaac Owusu got the only consolation for Amidaus.

Wa All Stars were held to a goalless draw game by Ashanti Gold at the Wa Park. While Aduana Stars also beat inform Hasaccas 2-0 at the Agyemang Badu Park in Dormaa courtesy James Abban and Jafaru Zuberu.

Elsewhere at the Cape Coast Robert Mensah Stadium a lone goal from Ernest Ackron secured all points for Ebusua Dwarfs against Bechem United.
