Ghana on Saturday evening held Germany to a trilling 2-2 stalemate at the Estádio Castelão in Fortaleza in their second group G game of the FIFA World Cup.
The first 45 minutes of the game seem to be dreary after it failed to produce any goal. But it was Joachim Loews men who drew first blood when midfielder Mario Gotze headed home a Thomas Muller cross in the 52nd minutes to put Die Mannschaaft in front.
The Black stars quickly responded through an Andre Ayew perfect header 2 minutes later to draw Ghana on level pegging following an excellent in-swinger from right back Harrison Afful.
The game seems to be even as both sides maintain possession. Ghana skipper Asamoah Gyan put the Black Stars in front with a perfect finish in the 63rd minutes after receiving a nice through pass from Sulley Muntari to slot in a powerful drive with his right foot. His fifth at the World Cup. A goal which equals Cameroon’s Roger Miller’s record at the World Cup.
Ghana raised their momentum after that goal and could have cushioned their lead when substitute Jordan Ayew took on his markers only for him to shoot straight into the arms of Germany goalkeeper Manuel Nuer in the 68th minutes.
Germany finally got their much needed equalizer in the 70th
minutes when striker Miroslav Klose who came on as a substitute tapped in from
close range to make it 2-2 after the Ghana defense failed to clear their lines
following a corner kick from Bastien Schweinsteiger.
After 90 plus 3 minutes of additional time Brazilian referee Sandro Meira Ricci blew his final whistle to bring proceedings to an end.
The Black Stars will now have to expect positive results in the game between the USA and Portugal and also go ahead to defeat the Portuguese in their last game which will be played on June 26th to enhance their chances of qualifying to the next round of the competition.
