BADMINTON: IMPROVISE RECREATIONAL CENTERS FOR TRAINING-ALICE ATTIPOE

Acting Director General of the National Sports Authority Madam Alice Atipoe has urged badminton players to use facilities and halls available in their vicinities as training and playing grounds in other to help improve their playing skills in Badminton.

According to Madam Attipoe, conference rooms, church halls, hotels should be used as training or playing grounds as part of improving the game of Badminton in the country.

Madam Attipoe spoke during the launching of training program for Tutors and Physical Education Teachers to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to plan and deliver safe badminton lessons to schools children by the Badminton Association of Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“Yes, we don’t have the facilities easily but what we are good at us Ghanaians is improvisation and so I will urge you all, Mr. Bamford Bonny is right we cannot immediately start fitting up halls for badminton," she said.

“But out there we have conference rooms; you can go there and ask for any hotel. As for the conference rooms you can go to the churches after we have close from church on Sunday afternoon, the halls are there so you can use it as Badminton hall”.

“All you need is to put the light and put the structures there and off you go. If you are playing badminton nobody can stop you. And when you go to the communities you have the community halls, meeting rooms, you can use it, turn it into a badminton hall”.

“Most of all the schools, you have large rooms as dining halls and you can easily push two or three tables to the sides and off you go, you have a badminton playing field which you can easily use. So you can always have the facilities if you really intend to. All you need is the commitment and dedication that you are going out there to ensure you gives out your best”.

The National Sports Authority over the years has been facing the issue of financing and training facilities in the country.
