Ghana
midfielder Micheal Essien has expressed his gratitude to former team mates and
coach at Chelsea Jose Mourinho.
After
eight seasons at the Stamford Bridge, The Ghanaian midfielder makes a move to
the San Siro where he will be joining fellow countryman Sulley Muntari at AC
Milan.
Essien
took the decision after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho said he wasn’t guaranteed a
place in his team, and with the arrival of new signing Nimanja Matic from
Benfica it seemed the Ghanaian international’s woes would have been deepened .
"I
would like to thank the [Chelsea] president and team and also [manager Jose]
Mourinho, who has allowed me to wear this red and black shirt” .The Bison said
on his arrival at Milan.
He
further on expressed his desire to give his best for the club. “I will do my
best for Milan and I hope to be ready to play immediately." He added.
The
Bison was a record signing for the London Club in 2005 when he was signed from
French outfit Olympic Lyon for a fee of 24.4 million pounds.
The
31-year-old, who was released by Chelsea on a free transfer, is joining Milan on an 18-month
contract after undergoing a medical on Saturday and reports say the former
Bastia and Lyon star will be handed wages worth €1.5m for the next six months
and €3m for next season on a deal that expires in June 2015.
