NYANTAKYI SURE AFRICAN TEAMS WILL EXCEL AT 2014 FIFA WORLD CUP

President of the Ghana football Association lawyer Kwasi Nyantekyi believes African teams will excel at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

According to the Ghana FA boss, he has a strong conviction that an African team will make it to at least the semi final stage of this year’s mundial looking at the performance of African teams in the last three editions of the World Cup.

“I was hoping Africa would do something on African soil 4 years ago. Even if we had gotten to the semi finals it would have maybe increased our slots from five to six. But it was rather unfortunate no African team got that far,” He said in an exclusive interview with SPORTS LOUNGE.

“But this time around I strongly believe an African team will make it to at least the Semi finals looking at the performance of African teams at the World Cup in the last three editions.

“At least an African team makes it to the next round in the last three editions. In 2002, Senegal was able to make it to the quarter finals. In 2006, Ghana made it to the round of 16 only to lose to defending champions Brazil. Then in 2010 Ghana once again made it to the quarter finals, so this time around I believe an African team will really go far. If not for anything, the semi finals”.

Meanwhile Nyantekyi also revealed that the weather condition in Brazil will also favor African teams at the World Cup.

“Again if you look at the weather condition in Brazil, it is almost like that of Africa. So in that case African teams have a little bit of advantage. That is the more reason why most of the European teams are trying for some of the games to be shifted in the afternoon or late in the morning to avoid the harsh weather”.

Africa is been represented by Ghana, Nigeria, Cameroon, the Ivory Coast and the Algeria. This year’s World Cup kick starts from June 12 and ends on July 13.
