MAIDENS LOOSE TO NIGERIA IN ACCRA

2013-10-10 15.29.50

The national under 17 team, the Black Maidens lost the 2nd league of their warm up friendly against Nigeria by 2-1 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Ghana who had already lost 3-1 in Nigeria 2weeks ago, once again lost to their rivals at their own backyard.

The Flamingo’s opened the scoring just 8 min into the game after striker Aku Cynthia Onyedikachi headed in from close range following a cross from the right hand side of attack by Chidinma Edeji.

Ghana however got the equalizer in the 55th min by Lily Niber-Lawrence after receiving a fine through pass from Rasheeda Abdul Rahman to calmly slot in past the Nigeria goalkeeper to bring Ghana level. But the Nigeria’s lifted their game and got the match winner 8min from time after a sloppy defending by the Ghanaian defense which allowed Nigeria midfielder Ajibade Rashidat to force the ball into the net to put the Nigerian’s back in front.

The home loss means Coach Evans Adotey’s side went down 5-2 on aggregate to their Nigerian counterparts.
The Maidens, who will be making a fourth successive appearance at the 2014 FIFA U-17 tournament, used the warm up games against Nigeria to ready themselves for the mundial in Costa Rica, which kicks off in March this year.
