Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko head coach Maxwell
Konadu has lashed out a special advice to local teams in Ghana, especially
those participating in Africa saying local teams should make it a point to
prepare very well ahead of games.
This came as a results of the shocking
elimination of local champions Asante Kotoko in the CAF Champions league by
Liberia side Barrack Young Controllers (BYC).
“ Now a days football is everywhere, and the
teams that are preparing very well are doing well. So you just need to prepare
well or else you will be booted out. Ahly are doing it, Zamalek are doing it
just because they prepare and prepare very well”.
“And one
factor to is they play together for a very long time. You know they are always
reluctant to move out as compared to us (Ghanaians), so they get the boys for
some time. They keep them together for a longer period so they do well in
Africa but is not the same here”. He told SPORTS LOUNGE.
Three of Ghana’s teams in Africa made it to the
next round CAF Champions league and Confederation cup, thus Chelsea, Medeama
and Dwarfs leaving Kotoko the only side failing advance to the next round in
this year’s Champions League.
Asante Kotoko on a second consecutive occasion
were knocked out in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions league on the
away goal rule after losing 0-1 to BYC in Monrovia on Sunday.
This means Kotoko have failed to get to the group
stage ever since they did that way back 2006.
