Minister Hon. Mahama Ayariga has indicated the legitimacy of FIFA’s decision to
ask the Ghana football Association to provide reports on the composition and
competences of the commission set up by the Government of Ghana to investigate
Ghana’s performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
The World football governing body [FIFA] on Wednesday sent
a letter to the Ghana FA to provide a vivid report and information concerning
the commission set up by the Sports minister to examine Ghana’s shambolic
display at the Copa Mundial.
A three-member Committee made up of Appeal Court Judge
Justice Senyo Dzamefe, Sports Administrator Moses Foh-Amoaning and Kofi Anokye
Darko set up by the sector Minister to
investigate Ghana’s exit at the global soccer fiesta was later on upgraded into
a commission, thus giving it powers to summon people to appear before it.
Mahama Ayariga who took over from Elvis Afriyie Ankrah just
after Ghana’s exit from the competition in an interview with Accra-based Joy FM
says it is legitimate for FIFA to ask the FA for information concerning the
issue at hand.
“I think it is perfectly legitimate for FIFA to write to
the local FA to request for information and to be briefed by the local FA
regarding the event on the ground”.
“In a digital World like we have today I’m sure they have
full details of what is available by virtue of the media that we have, but the
need concrete reports from their local. So I think it is perfectly legitimate
and there is nothing wrong with that”.
The Ghana Football Association could face FIFA’s
sanctioning if there is any issue of Governments interference in its
activities.
