Chairman of the Black Princesses, Osei-Tutu Agyemang
has indicated that the team is aiming to make a meaning impact at this year’s FIFA
U-20 Women’s World Cup which will be held in Canada.
Ghana will be competing in her fourth consecutive World Cup
appearance after playing in the 2008, 2010 and 2012 editions of the competition.
The Black Princesses who have never made it past the group
stages at the World Cup are set to enplane to Canada to begin their training
tour on Friday. Head coach Bashiru Hayford who guided to team to a fourth World
Cup feat will be hoping to make history as the first coach to have qualified
the team out of the group stages.
Although Ghana has been tagged as minors as much is not
expected from them in a group consisting of host Canada, Finland and 2006 champions
Korea DPR, Osei-Tutu who is usually referred as “kotoro” believes the
princesses can make a significant impact this time around at the competition.
“Yes we know we are minors comparing with the sort of
oppositions in the group, we are aiming to make a meaningful impact this time
around” He told SPORTS LOUNGE in an exclusive chat.
“As you said, last two years didn’t go well for us. But
this time around with the sort of preparation we have done we believe we can
prove something”, he added.
“We have really talked to the girls to put everything
behind them and focus on the competition. We have given them some good pep talks
and have really motivated them. They have also psyched themselves up and are
prepared for the tournament. So we believe we can make an impression in Canada”.
The 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Kicks Starts from
August 5-28th. Ghana begins her campaign with the host in the
opening game of the tournament on August 5, before facing Korea DPR in their
second game on the 8th and wrap
up their group games with Finland on August 12.
