Head coach of the Black Stars, James Kwasi Appiah believes
despite Ghana’s abysmal performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup, the scouts for
the team did their job well by feeding him with the right information about his
opponents.
The Ghana FA assigned three technical brains in the persons
of Asante Kotoko head trainer Masud-Didi Dramani, former Black Stars player now
Youth coach of Humburg FC Otto Addo and Inter Allies technical director Sam
Addy to scout on Ghana’s group opponents USA, Germany and Portugal respectively.
Although many have attributed Ghana’s poor run at this year’s
World Cup tournament to the chaotic incidence that happened in the team’s camp
in Maceio [Brazil], some football pundits also believes lack of relevant information
on the part of the scouts also accounted to Ghana’s terrible feat at the
mundial.
But Kwasi Appiah who was hoping to better Ghana’s quarter final
berth 4 years ago in South Africa believes his scouts did their work well by
giving him the right information on his opponents.
“I will personally say that the scouts really did their job
well. I had an analyst from Manchester City to be the team and I did send out
scouts to monitor all the teams that we were playing”, he told the media in a
press conference at the Alisa hotel.
“And the information that we had was really good. It was
backed by video evidences. Whenever the scouts travel out they send information
through the mail for the video analyst to also bring out the games that the scouts
have watched, and they will pinpoint the areas that need to be shown for us”.
“So the analyst played a very big role to the extent that
they were able to capture all the video evidences of our scouts in certain
areas and it really did help”.
Ghana failed to go past the group stages for the first time
at the World Cup after placing bottom of group G with only 1 point.
