Berekum
Chelsea on Thursday were able to hold Liberty professional to a goalless draw
in their outstanding league fixture at the Alhaji Sly Tetteh park in Dansoman.
Liberty who
bewildered Hearts of Oak 3-1 on Sunday at the same venue was hoping to make it
two on a row within a space of one week, but could not end up as they were held
by the Berekum lads.
Liberty who
had never dropped points ever since making a return to the Karl Reindorf park
took the game to the visitors as they started on a bright note pushing their
opponents into their own half at the early stages of the game with chances
falling to their front liners lead by Cisse and Micheal Appiah, but the duo could
not utilize the opportunities as they gone begging. The home side seemed to
have dominated the first department of the game.
The midfield partnership
between Tamimu Muntari and Anthony Nimo seemed to be working for the scientific
lads as they stringed their passes very well in the first half.
Berekum
Chelsea head coach Tonny Lokko saw the deficiency in his midfield and made some
few tactical changes which eventually brought the blues back into the game in the
second department.
The introduction of midfielder Obed Owusu seemed
to have changed the pace of the game for the 2011 league champions as they saw
their rhythm back on track. Prince Attokra Gyimah, Yaw Alexander and Obed
Owusu made things difficult for Liberty in the second half but Liberty’s
central defensive pair of Latif Abubakari and James Bisirama stood their
grounds as they made some good clearances to prevent Chelsea from scoring.
The draw
however push both Chelsea and Liberty to 30 points and occupy the 9th
and 10th respectively on the log.
