Ghana
forward Abdul Majeed Waris scored his 9th goal for Valencienne in
their 2-1 lost to Lyon at home on Sunday afternoon.
The 23 year
old scored in the 66th min after Bafetimbi Gomis had shot Lyon in
front in the 29th min. The petit striker charged into the area
before cutting inside Milan Bisevac and smashing a shot beyond Lyon goalkeeper
Lopes at his near post.
Ariel Jocobs
men could not keep the game level as Lyon midfielder Jordan Ferri got the
second goal for his side in the 69th min.
Waris could
have kept the relegation threatening side’s hopes alive when they were awarded
a penalty. But the Ghanaian striker had his tame spot kick saved by the Lyon
goalkeeper.
The lost
keeps the Les Atheniens still in the relegation zone on 18th
position with just 29 points.
