Ghanaian
players still dominate the headlines in their respective leagues abroad as they
continue their impressive performance for the teams. SPORTS LOUNGE Frank Darkwah brings you a low down on
how Ghanaian players fared over the weekend for their clubs.
FRANCE
Andre Ayew was instrumental and set up the first goal for Marseille when they
went away to beat Montpellier 3-2. The Ghanaian international played the full
90min for Marseille. Striker Abdul
Majeed Waris made way in the 64th min for French youth
international Jean Christophe Behebeck when Valenciennes lost 0-1 to Lille at
the Grand Stade Lille Motropole. Jordan
Ayew was on the score sheet when his side Sochaux defeated Toulouse 2-0 at
home in the French Ligue 1 on Saturday night. The Ghanaian international was
substituted in the 74th min. Jonathan
Mensah came on to play the second 45 min for Evian Thonon Gaillard who won
2-1 over Bastia at home. John Boye
was dropped to the bench when Stade Rennes lost 0-1 at home to AS Monaco.
GERMANY
Kelvin-Prince
Boateng played 86
min for Schalke who beat Frankfurt 2-0 at home. Fellow Ghanaian Anthony Annan could only watch the game
from the bench. Ghanaian born German Marcel
Appiah played in defense for Armenia Belefield who were held by Karksruche
at the Schuco-Arena. Former Asante Kotoko and Dream FC left back Abdul Baba Rahman came on in the 71st
min to help SpVgg Greuther Furth secure 3 points at home as they beat FC
Erzgebirge Aue 2-1. Charles Takyi scored
the consolation and played 90min when Energy Cottbus lost 1-2 to VFL Bochum.
ITALY
Rahman
Chibsah was an
unused substitute when Sassoulo drew 1-1 at home with Cagliari. Afriyie
Acquah controlled affairs in midfield when his side Parma went to draw 1-1
with Bologna. Alfred Duncan came on
in the 54th min to replace Argentine defender Nahuel Valentini in
Livorno’s 2-4 loss to Chievo Verons at Armando Picchi. Inter
Milan young defender Isaac Donkor
could not make the bench for his side when they went to beat Sampdoria 4-0.
Elsewhere at the Stadio Olimpico, Isaac
Coffie sat on the bench and did not have any min of time when Genoa lost to
Torino by 2-1. 20 year old Ghanaian forward Emmanuel Gyasi could not make the Torino team. Both Essien and Muntari were missing in AC Milan 1-0 win over Catania at home due
to injuries. Kingsley Boateng was a
bench warmer for Catania.
In the Seria
B, Acosty Boadu Maxwell was missing
from the Carpi squad who drew 0-0 away at Crotone. Masahudu Alhassan as usual was at left back and played the full
game for Latina when they demolished Novara at home by 4-1. Fiorentina Loanee Amidu Salifu was a full timer for
Modena who managed a 4-2 home win over Juve Stabia. In other games, Isaac Ntow enjoyed full time at the
Partenio Stadium when Brescia went to beat US Avellino 1-0.
ENGLAND
Derrick
Boateng was left
out of the Fulham squad that won 1-0 at home over Norwich City. Ghanaian born Alexander Tettey was on the Norwich
bench.
In the Championship,
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel
Frimpong was not in the match day squad for Barnsley who lost narrowly by
1-0 to Bolton. Winger Albert Adomah who
is the top scorer for Middlesbrough this season played the entire duration in
their 1-0 win away over Burnley. 20 year old Seth-Ofori Twumasi warmed the bench for Yeovil Town who drew 1-1 at
home with AFC Bournemouth.
In the
League One, Aston Villa loanee Curtis
Obeng played at right back for Stevenage who lost 1-3 at home to Colchester
United.
In the
league two, Burly striker Patrick Agyemang
came on in the last 5min to help Portsmouth beat Dagenham &Redbridge 4-1
away. Jo Kuffour came on in the 72nd
min for Wycombe Wanderers but could not help them avoid a 2-0 defeat away at
Newport County. Duo Kwasi Appiah and
Wil Antwi were in the team sheet of
Wimbledon when they won 1-0 away at Southend with Appiah starting and getting
himself booked in the 59th min and Antwi coming in on the 90th
min mark for Wimbledon.
Elsewhere in
the English Conference, Ghanaian born Andy
Yiadom and James Harper started
for Barnet in their 0-4 home loss to Halifax. Yiadom however played the entire
game while Harper made way in the 46th min for Irish defender Sam
Muggleton in the 46th min. Both Kelvin
Amankwaa and Koby Arthur started
for Salisbury City and Lincoln respectively and were substituted in the 75th
and 46th min correspondingly when the away team Lincoln won 2-1.
SWEDEN
In the
Allsvenskanliga, former Hearts of Lions forward Benjamin Fadi was on the bench for Malmo FF when they drew 1-1 at
home with Gefle IF. Striker David Accam
scored the third goal for Helsingborg when they beat BK Hacken 4-2 at home. Walid Attah and Mohammed Nasiru were in the Hacken squad with Attah playing in
central defense for Hacken. King Osei
Gyan played full min for Halmstad who drew 0-0 with IFK Norrkoping.
NETHERLAND
Winger Christian Atsu scored his 5th
goal of the season when Vitessi Ahiem lost 3-4 to Cambuur Leeuwarden on
Saturday night at the Cambuur Stadion. Former Dutch youth international Elvis Manu played 64 min for Cambuur. Ghanaian born youngster Mawouna Kodjo Amevor watched the game from the bench when Go Ahead
Eagles lost 0-2 at home to Heerenveen. Shadrach
Kwasi Eghan who is knocking on the doors of the Black Stars was not in the
Twente Enschede team that recorded a 3-0 win over Roda JC Kerkrade at home. Matthew Amoah came on to play the
second 45 min for Heracles Almelo when they lost 2-1 away at Utrecht. Fellow Ghanaian team mates Kwame Quansah and Edwin Gyasi could not make the Heracles team. Both Mitch Apau and Fred Benson enjoyed full min for RKC Waalwijk and PEC Zwolle
respectively when the game ended in a 1-1 stalemate.

Mohammed was on the
bench when Granada recorded an important 1-0 win over Barcelona at the Estadio

BELGIUM
Nana Kwasi
Asare was in full
action for KAA Gent as they defeated Waasland-Beveren 2-1 at home. Former
Hearts of Lions striker Abraham Kudemo
came on to play the last 10 min for Royal Charleroi SC who went to grab all 3 points
at Cercle Brugge KSV when they beat the home team 4-2. Former Feyenood Academy
forward Abdul Iddi Yakini came in
the 76th min for Mechelen when they were hammered 4-1 by KV
Kortrijk. Both Bernard Kumordzi and Daniel Opare were able in the starting
team of Racing Genk and Standard Liege respectively when the game ended 2-2.
RUSSIA
Rabiu
Mohammed made an
injury return when he came on in the 80th min in Kuban Krasnador’s
2-0 away win over Rubin Kazan. Mubarak
Wakasu was not included in the Rubin Kazan team.
TURKEY

Akaminko was in the
heart of defense when Eskisehirspor drew 2-2 at home with Trabzonspor.

Ghanaian forward Daniel Amankwaah
was on the bench for FC Copenhagan when they beat AGF Aarhus at home. Dominic Oduro came on for AGF Aarhus.
SWITZERLAND

Yartey played the
full game when Sion Sitten lost narrowly to league leaders FC Basel by 1-0 at
home. 2013 under 20 Golden ball winner Ebenezer
Assifuah was missing from the Sion team. Samuel Afful helped Young Boys secure a point when he scored in
their 2-2 draw with FC Zurich.
SPAIN
Richmond
Boakye Yiadom came on in
the 76th min but could do little to help his side Elche avoid defeat
when they lost 2-1 to Valencia.
USA
Kingsley
Baiden and Dominic Oduro were in the Columbus Crew
team when they drew at San Jose. Quincy
Amankwah scored the equalizer for Chicago Fire in their 1-1 draw with
Montreal Impact. Fellow Ghanaian Patrick
Nyarko also started for Chicago and was booked in the 44th min
before being substituted in the 88th min. Kofi Sakordie played in defense for Houston who lost 2-0 to New
England. Nana Attakora was on the bench
for DC United bench when they won 1-0 over New York Red Bulls. Kofi Opare was left on the bench of LA
Galaxy who managed a 1-0 win over Vancouver Whitecaps. Former Ghana under 20
midfielder Gershon Koffie played the
full game for Whitecaps. Kalif Alhassan
made way in the second half when his side Portland Timbers drew 1-1 with Ghivas
USA.
PORTUGAL
Left back David Addy started and got booked when
Vitoria Guimaraes lost 3-1 at home to Belenenses. Haminu Dramani was left out of the Gil Vicente team who lost 2-0 to
Sporting Lisbon.
EGYPT
John Antwi scored his 8th goal of the season for Ismaily when
they beat Al Masry in the Egyptian top flight.
GREECE
Samuel
Inkoom helped
Platanias maintain themselves in the league when they managed to hold Panionios
to a 0-0 draw. The Ghanaian defender played 90 min while fellow Ghanaian Aziz Tetteh was out of Platanias squad
due to injury.
