Ghanaian
attacker Mathew Amoah has stated he does not intend to make a return into the
Black Stars squad despite his exploits in the Dutch Eredivision
The 33-year-old who
received his debut call to the national team in 2002 had failed to gain a call
since making an appearance for the Black Stars in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in
South Africa when he came on as a substitute for Asamoah Gyan in Ghana’s 0-1
loss to Germany at the group stages.
In an interview on Monday’s
edition of Power Sports In the Morning, the former SC Heerenveen and Vitesse
Arhiem forward who now plies his trade at Heracles Almelo says he is not
thinking about the Black Stars now since he did not play in any of the
qualifiers prior to the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
“I'm not thinking about the
Black Stars. It’s been long since I played for the national team and I didn't
play in the qualifiers so I'm not looking forward to being part of the World
Cup. I'm presently focused on my club football,” he said.
Amoah who has also had
stint with German side Borussia Dortmund has endured two hamstring injuries
this season and does not want to compound his situation.
The former NEC Breda goal
poacher has only managed four starts in 15 appearances for Heracles this season
finding the back of the net twice.
