Chairman of
the MTN FA Cup Committee, Lepowura MND Jawula has tipped Premier League side
Medeama SC to progress to the group stage of this season’s CAF Confederations
Cup after the Tarkwa based side managed to maintain its status as the nation’s
only remaining club in the continental club competition.
Medeama SC managed to eliminate Panthers of
Equatorial Guinea, Moroccan side Maghreb Fez and ZESCO United of Zambia in the
preliminary stages of the CAF Confederations Cup, though fellow Ghanaian trio
Asante Kotoko, Berekum Chelsea and Ebusua Dwarfs were all eliminated in the
early stages of the African Inter-club competition.
Lepowura MND
Jawula has described Medeama SC as the Masters of knock-out competitions and
believes they can go all way in the CAF Confederations Cup.
“I think
their chances are very bright. They have done very well. They have managed to
get this far on home and away bases. The other favoritism is that is a
knockout, they have been able to knock their competitors out. They have been
very good excellent ambassadors of Ghana. And for me that tell you that our
competition is very good so if you do well in our competition you are able to
do well in Africa as well”. He told Power FM
The Mauves
and Yellows will now attempt to beat Congolese champions AC Leopards to earn a
place at the group stage of the CAF Confederations Cup and possibly go all the
way to pick up the prize money of US$625,000 or the US$432,000 handed to the
runner-up.
The Ghana FA will earn US$35,000 if Medeama SC
wins the CAF Confederations Cup or US$30,000 if Coach Roberto Carlos Paulette’s
side finishes as the runner up in the competition.
