Former Ghana defender Tony
Baffour has called for local players who have the ability to be included in the
Black Stars squad ahead of Ghana’s World Cup campaign in Brazil.
There have been heavy calls
from Ghanaian football enthusiast on head coach Kwasi Appiah to include local
based players into his 23 man squad who will make it to the Global soccer
mundial of which defenders Nuru Sulley and Abeiku Ainooson have been the names
on the lips of many Ghanaian football fans.
And the 1992 African Cup of
nation silver medalist in Senegal believes local players who have the
potentials and capabilities should be considered in the squad.
“If the player in the local
league has the ability and prepares mentally and plays alongside all these big
shots, he can do well”. He told Power FM.
“It is the preparation definitely
towards a big tournament like that, and you know Ghana has a name, the Black
Stars is a brand now, internationally very well recognized. I happy we are
playing Holland at the end of May and is also a very good test for the team”.
Aduana Stars goalkeeper Stephen Adams is also
one of the local players who have been tipped by many to make it into Coach
Kwasi Appiah’s squad.
The Black Stars starts
preparations for the Global Soccer Fiesta in May where Kwasi Appiah will be
expected to name his 23 man squad.
