ADWOA BAYOR SET TO RETURN TO QUEENS?

Head Coach of the Black Queens, Yusif Basigi insists he has not shut his door on the team’s former captain Adjoa Bayor.

The Immigration Ladies’ striker, who has been appointed by FIFA as a match commissioner for this year’s Under-17 World Cup in Costa Rica, has not played for the Black Queens since retiring in 2010 after her participation in the Africa Women’s Championship in South Africa.

Though the former USV Jena and Ghatel Ladies midfielder is ageing, Coach Yusif Basigi believes the 32-year-old Adjoa Bayor can still be an inspirational figure in the Black Queens set-up if she returns to the team.

“Nothing stops her from playing for the Black Queens, so nothing stops me from inviting her to the Black Queens. She can inspire the players. There is no doubt about that fact. So the only thing is when she is included into the team, she may not be an automatic choice maybe in the starting line up but she could be an inspiration but that notwithstanding we have the like of Florence Okoe who is also doing very well,” Coach Basigi told Power FM.

The 2003 Africa Women’s Footballer of the Year would be considered for a place in the Black Queens squad for the Namibia 2014 Africa Women’s Championship qualifier against Ethiopia in May.
