MAJETIE FETRI AIMS AT LEAST 4 MEDALS IN WEIGHTLIFTING IN COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Head Trainer of the Ghana Amateur Boxing team, Ofori Asare says his Black Bombers team has set a target of improving upon their medal count at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games by securing at least 3 medals at this year’s multi-sport competition in Glasgow.

The national weightlifting team secured a total of 19 medals during the 2013 African Weightlifting Championship held in Casablanca, Morocco in October last year after facing stiff competition from Algeria, Cameroon, Kenya, Libya, Madagascar, Mauritius, host Morocco, Seychelles, South Africa and Tunisia.

“Commonwealth Games is tougher than Africa so we can get four medals, we will be grateful. We are in residential camping and I strongly believe that we are going to do well at the Commonwealth Games,” He said.

Four years ago at the Commonwealth Games in Games, the Black Bombers could only contribute only one medal to Ghana’s four medals hauled at the event.

As part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming Commonwealth Games they will travel to Botswana to participate in the Africa Junior Amateur Championship, which is slated for next month to gather confidence for Glasgow 2014.
