Confirmed: Gov’t to release GH¢24million as Black Stars budget for 2014 World Cup



The cabinet of Ghana has approved a combined sum of GH¢24,677,025 (app US$9,659,435.23) as budget for the Black Stars’ participation at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer.

In a press release signed by Mahama Ayariga, the Minister for Information & Media Relation, the Ghana Football Association are to receive GH¢10,500,000 as monetary allocation “to finance Ghana’s participation in the first group stage of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.”

According to the release, “a further amount of GH¢14,177,025 has also been budgeted to cover the team’s expenses when they qualify for subsequent stages of the competition. This brings Government commitment to the Black Stars’ participation to a total of GH¢24,677,025.”

Concluding the statement, “Cabinet has expressed great confidence in the Ghana Black Stars and its Technical Team and is satisfied with the preparations made so far towards Ghana’s participation in the World Cup in Brazil.”

The Ghana FA had US$19 million approved for the South Africa World Cup four years ago but actually spent US$9 million after a historic quarter-final berth at the competition.
