Former
Asante Kotoko midfielder, Charles Asampong Taylor has revealed he never regret
playing for the porcupine warriors during his days with the club.
Taylor, 33,
played for the reds for two seasons after he was signed from Accra Hearts of
oak in 2003 for a record fee of 40,000 cedis (roughly US$42,000). The former
Accra Great Olympics marksman who also had stint with Tunisian giant Etoile du
Sahel has been battling with injuries ever since he left Asante Kotoko. But the
ex- Ghanaian footballer of the year award winner has stated he never regret
playing for the Porcupine warriors.
“I have
never regretted playing for Asante Kotoko. I must say I really enjoyed my time
at Kotoko. They really accepted me very well. The fans really liked me”. He
told Accra based Asempa FM.
“Kotoko is a
team I have always liked. Ever since I was young I had always told myself I
wanted to play for Kotoko and Hearts because those are the two big clubs in
Ghana”. He added.
“I will say
am a true Kotoko fun because my parents also supported the club. But as a
footballer you always have to do your work and do it well. And everyone will
bear with me that I really played my hearts out during my stay at Hearts of
Oak”.
Taylor who was a member of the Black Starlet squad
that finished third at the 1999 under 17 World Cup in Newzealand was also an
integral member of the Ghana under 20 squad that won silver at the 2001 African
youth Championships in Ethiopia. He was a member of the 2004 Ghana Olympic team
and played a part in the senior national team the Black Stars on few occasions.
He represented the local Black Stars team at the 2009 African Championships of
Nations in Cote d’Ivoire where Ghana finished second.
He currently
plays for Premier League side Berekum Chelsea but has been sidelined since the
beginning of the season due to a knee injury.
