COMPREHENSIVE UPDATE OF GHANAIAN PLAYERS ABROAD


With just 103 days to the World cup, Ghanaian players abroad continue to impress at their various clubs to keep their chances of making it into Ghana coach Kwasi Appiah’s squad alive. Jordan Ayew was the happiest of all over the weekend after he registered his debut goal for Sochaux. Elvis Manu continues his goal scoring with yet another goal from the spot kick. SPORTS LOUNGE brings you a recap of how Ghanaian players fared abroad over the weekend.


ENGLAND
 Derrick Boateng was as usual out from the Fulham team who lost 3-1 at home. In the championship, Emmanuel Frimpong was booked in the 62nd min and was substituted in the 77th min when Barnley were whitewashed by Huddersfield Town at the John Smith’s Stadium. Youngster Jeffrey Schlupp played full 90 min for Leicester City when they beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 to keep themselves on top of the league with 74 points. Middleborough top scorer for this season Albert Adomah played 58 min for Boro when they lost narrowly by 1-0 to Sheffield Wednesday.

SCOTLAND
Prince Buaben played the whole game for St Partick Thistle when his side drew 1-1 with Ross County. Daniel Boateng also came on in the 71st min to feature for Hibernian when they lost 1-3 at home to Dundee United.

SPAIN
Richmond Boakye Yiadom once again failed to secure a starting place in the Elche team that won 1-0 over Celta Vigo at home. The Ghanaian forward only came on to play the last 8 min for Elche. Fatau Mohammed was booked in the 2nd min and was substituted in the 25th min when Granada lost by 4-0 to Athletico Bilbao. Fellow Ghanaian Richard Boateng came on in the 72nd min for Granada In the Spanish Segunda, Thomas Partey came on to play the second 45 min for Osasuna when they lost 1-2 to Barcelona B at home.

ITALY
In the Seria A, Emmanuel Agyemang Badu was an unused substitute when his side Udinese lost 3-0 to Cagliari away.  Elsewhere in Genoa, both Isaac Cofie and Kingsley Boateng could not get any playing time when the home side Genoa won 2-0 over Catania. Still in the seria A, Rahman Chibsah could not taste any min of action when his side Sassoulo lost 0-1 at home to Parma. Former under 20 midfielder Afriyie Acquah came on in the 2nd half to feature for Parma. Elsewhere at the Armando Picchi Stadium Alfred Duncan came on to play the last 8th min for Livorno who managed to hold 2nd place Napoli to a 1-1 draw. In the Seria A game of the week between AC Milan and Juventus, Sulley Muntari could not make the Milan team while Micheal Essien was an unused substitute for Milan. Kwadwo Asamoah on the other hand played full throttle for Juventus who managed to beat Milan 2-0 at San Siro. In the Seria B, Acosty Boadu –Maxwell came on for Raffaele Bianco in the 71st min to help Carpi record a 2-0 away win over Brescia. In other games Moro Alhassan warmed the bench for Cesena when they drew 2-2 at home with Trapani. At the Alberto Braglia stadium, youngster Salifu Mohammed played the entire game for Modena when they managed 2 goals pass Crotone. Mas-ud Alhassan played the entire game for Latina who won 3-0 at home over Padova

GERMANY
Ghanaian international Kelvin Prince Boateng suffered the heaviest defeat in the domestic league when they were walloped 5-1 at the Aliens Arena. The midfielder however played 90 full minutes for the royal blues. Fellow team mate Anthony Annan was not part of the Schalke team. In the Bundesliga 2, Marcel Appiah was a pillar in defends for Armenia Belefield who lost 2-0 at Fortuna Desseldorlf. Charles Tekyi was not in the Energy Cottbus team that won 1-0 over Kaiserslaten. Former Asante Kotoko and under 20 left back Abdul Baba Rahman played the lasted 90min for his side Spvgg Greuther Furth who beat FSV Frankfurt 3-2 at home

FRANCE
Ghanaian international Jordan Ayew finally got his name on the score sheet after scoring in Sochaux’s 2-0 win over Bordeaux. The 22 year old scored in the 70th min just 2min after coming on from the bench for Sebastian Corchia. In form Abdul Majeed Waris was booked in the 79th min when his side Valeciennes lost 3-1 to Stade de Reims. John Boye was in full action for Stade Rennes lost 2-0 to Guingamp. Jonathan Mensah sat on the bench when Evian won 2-0 over Nantes at the Parc des Sports. AS Monaco loanee Dennis Appiah also played the entire duration for Cean when they beat Clermont foot 2-1 at home. Kwame Nsor was not part of the the Metz team who won 1-0 0ver AS Nancy Lorraine. Andre Ayew also played 90 min for Marseille but could not help them avoid defeat in the hands of league leaders PSG as they lost by 2-0.

NETHERLANDS
Fred Benson sat the whole game on bench for PEC Zwolle when they drew at home. Former dutch under 17 Jeffrey Sarpong was an unused substitute when his side NAC Breda managed to secure a point at ADO Den hag as the home ended 1-1. Dutch born Mawouna Kodjo Amevor got his first full game this season for Go Ahead Eagles in their 2-3 lost to PSV Eindhoven at home. In other games, sensational Christian Atsu explored at the number 10 position but was booked in the 53rd min when the Vitas got 3 goals past Roda JC Kerkrade. Astu was however substituted in the 80th min for Burkinabe international Bertrand Troare. Both Kwame Quansah and Mathew Amoah were in the match day squad for Heracles Almelo who lost 1-2 at home to Heerenveen with the former playing the entire game while the later came on in the 75th min. Shadrach Kwasi Eghan sat on the bench when his side Twente Enschede drew away with FC Utrecht. Still in the Eredivision, In form striker Elvis Manu scored from the spot kick in the 77th min to help his side Cambuur Leeuwarden secure a point away from home when they drew 1-1 with FC Groningen. Mitch Apau was on the bench when his side RKC Waalwijk lost heavily by 4-0 to AZ Alkmaar

TURKEY
Dependable defender Jerry Akaminko saw full action for Eskisehirspor who drew 0-0 at home with Kasimpasa. Richard Kingson was in post for Berlikirspor when they drew 2-2 at home with Samsumspor.

BELGIUM
Versatile full back Nana Kwasi Asare tasted the full game for KAA Gent when they won 2-1 over Royal Charleroi SC. Daniel Opare was an did not play for Standard  Liege when they lost 1-0 at Club Brugge. Frank Achaempong also came on in the 56th min to help Anderletche to a 2-0 win over Racing Genk at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium. Bernard Kumordzi came on in the 76th min for Genk.  

SOUTH AFRICA
Former Asante Kotoko defender Rashid Sumaila was in the heart of defends for Mamelodi Sundowns who lost 1-3 to Bidvest Wit at the Bidvest Stadium. Still in the Absa premier league, Ghana’s number one goalkeeper Fatau Dawda is still not having any favor from Orlando Pirates coach Eric Tinkler as he was left on the bench in the Brucanners 2-0 win over Free State Stars at the Orlando stadium. Ghanaian goalkeeper Daniel Adjei was not in the Free State Stars squad as he is still nursing an injury. Former Edubiase striker Adam Abdul-Basit came on in the 57th min for Free State but could not help them avoid defeat. Ghanaian duo Frank Sarfo Gyemfi and Awal Mohammed were all on the bench for Meritzburg United who managed a slim 1-0 win over Moroka Swallows.

PORTUGAL
Left back David Addy played 90 min for Guimaraes when they held leaders FC Porto to a 2-2 drawn game.

GREECE
Arago Jamal was not in Atromitos team that won 3-1 at Panaitolikos
